How to Clean a Whiteboard Properly
A properly maintained whiteboard can last 10+ years. Here's how to keep your whiteboard in perfect condition.
Daily Cleaning
Use a dry whiteboard eraser after each use. Wipe in horizontal strokes from left to right. For best results, use a microfibre cloth.
Weekly Deep Clean
Mix water with a small amount of whiteboard cleaner or isopropyl alcohol (70%). Spray on the board and wipe with a clean cloth. Dry completely before writing again.
Removing Ghost Marks
Ghost marks appear when ink is left on the board for too long. To remove:
1Write over the ghost marks with a fresh dry-erase marker
2Immediately wipe off with an eraser
3The fresh ink lifts the old dried ink
4Repeat if necessary
What NOT to Do
•Never use abrasive cleaners or steel wool
•Avoid permanent markers on whiteboards
•Do not use water alone without drying — causes streaking
•Never spray cleaner directly on the board surface
